The following cases were heard at Reading Magistrates' Court:

February 2:

MARTIN WOODS, 60, of Valentine Crescent, Caversham, admitted racially aggravated intentional harassment or alarm or distress by words or writing of a police officer in Reading on December 18. 2019. Fined £213. Also ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and £400 court costs. 

NICUSOR-LUCIAN BORTA, 29, of Hexham Road, Reading, convicted of driving while using a phone on the A322 Bagshot Road, Bracknell, on March 31, 2019. Fined £220. Also ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge and £620 court costs. Six points added to driving licence.

FREDERICK EMMETT, 67, of Usk Road, Tilehurst, admitted failing to stop after a crash on Grovelands Road, Reading, on September 24, 2019. Also admitted driving without due care and attention on Grovelands Road, Reading, on September 24, 2019. Fined £162. Also ordered to pay £120 compensation, £32 victim surcharge and £100 court costs. Eight points added to driving licence. 

February 3:

CATALIN GHERMAN, 44, of Park Avenue, Thatcham, admitted two charges of driving whilst disqualified on the A4 Bath Road, Reading, on November 9, 2019, and on October 11, 2019. Given a community order including 200 hours unpaid work. Also ordered to pay £90 victim surcharge and £700 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 12 months. 

Reading Chronicle:

GEORGE MIHALACHE, 30, of Jubilee Road, Reading, admitted drink-driving on Wokingham Road, Reading, on January 5. Found to have 79mcg alcohol per 100ml breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35mcg. Fined £180. Also ordered to pay £34 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 20 months. 

DANIEL ROCK, 34, of Wye Close, Tilehurst, admitted two charges of using threatening or abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment or distress in Tilehurst on August 22. Made subject of a restraining order. Fined £120. Also ordered to pay £34 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. 

MCPETERS AKEMCHE, 28, of Seton Drive, Calcot, admitted two charges of assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm in Reading on October 20, 2019. Sentenced to 26 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months, due to use of a weapon. Also ordered to pay £500 total compensation, £122 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. 

February 4:

LIAM TALLIS, 21, of Gainsborough Road, Reading, admitted drug-driving on Rosekiln Lane, Reading, on July 30. Found to have cannabis in his blood. Fined £200. Also ordered to pay £34 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 12 months.

CHRISTOPHER BOSWELL, 71, of James Butcher Drive, Theale, admitted failing to provide specimen for analysis at Loddon Valley on August 8. Given a community order including 80 hours unpaid work. Also ordered to pay £95 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 17 months. 

VELDA LITTLE, 67, of The Park, Lambourn, admitted four charges of fraud by false representation by stealing money in Hungerford on March 21, 2019, and March 22, 2019, March 29, 2019, and March 31, 2019. Given a community order including a curfew requirement. Also ordered to pay £2,000 compensation, £85 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. 

DANIEL JARRETT, 48, of Kentwood Hill, Tilehurst, admitted failing to surrender to custody at Berkshire Magistrates Court on November 13. Fined £100. Also ordered to pay £34 victim surcharge. 

A fundamental principle of justice is that it must be seen to be done. The principle of open justice is acclaimed on a number of grounds: as a safeguard against judicial error, to assist the deterrent function of criminal trials and to permit the revelation of matters of interest.
