A new vegetarian Indian restaurant is set to open on Oxford Road, with a licence application submitted and the eatery scheduled to open on April 25.

Crispy Dosa will be at 60 Oxford Road, which was previously home to Benny’s Gourmet and most recently New York Gourmet, both American-style diner restaurants.

Manikandan Ramamoorthy applied on April 7 to Reading Borough Council (RBC) for a licence to sell alcohol and play recorded music from 11am to 12am.

The licence will also grant the restaurant permission to serve hot food for the last hour of service (11pm-12am).

The restaurant’s website says it will open on Sunday, April 25.

Another Indian restaurant in the town centre will be transformed into a ‘minimarket’, with an art/recording studio in the basement.

Gurkha Home, at 13 West Street, will become Gorkha Minimarket, which will have four retail units and a small restaurant.

Pioneer Designs, on behalf of the restaurant owners, said: “Beijing Restaurant for many years has struggled to compete with the growing number of specialist and fast food restaurants in Reading town centre.”
