MORE than 50 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Berkshire in the past 24 hours.

Public Health England has recorded 52 new lab-confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, in areas including Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures, correct as of Wednesday, March 10, at 4.00pm, bring the latest total for the county to 54,389.

The local breakdown for the past 24 hours as follows:

Bracknell Forest - 10 cases, 6,870 total

Wokingham - 2 cases, 7,931 total

Reading - 8 cases, 10,569 total

West Berkshire - 8 cases, 6,152 total

Slough - 21 cases, 14,765 total

Windsor and Maidenhead -5 cases, 8,096 total

There have now been 4,234,924 people across the UK who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The latest seven-day rate per 100,000 people locally are as follows:

Bracknell Forest - 35.1

Wokingham - 35.1

Reading - 40.2

West Berkshire - 29.7

Slough - 80.2

Windsor and Maidenhead - 41.6

The Government said a further 190 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 124,987.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 147,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 5,926 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,234,924.
