Almost 90 per cent of people aged 70 or over in Reading have received a Covid-19 vaccine dose.

Around nine in 10 of those in the top priority age groups (80+, 75-79 and 70-74) in Reading have received a dose of the vaccine, according to the latest NHS data released on Thursday, March 4.

In total, 35,607 people in the town have received at least one dose, which is 18 per cent of the population and 22 per cent of all people aged 16 and over.

The table below shows the number of people vaccinated in Reading in each group, along with the population size and the percentage.

The Covid-19 vaccines have not yet been authorised in the UK for under 16s.

Last week, 30,865 people in Reading had received at least one dose of one of the Covid vaccines, which include Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford AstraZeneca.

Comparing areas within Reading

This table shows how many people have received the vaccine in each zone in Reading.

Southcote is now the area where the most people have received a dose, with Tilehurst North just behind.

Leighton Park, Lower Caversham, and Wokingham Road are the areas where the least people have received a dose of the vaccine.

When population of each area is taken into account, with the latest ONS population statistics from 2019, Tilehurst North is top, with Caversham Emmer Green second, and Reading Central bottom.

Wider area: Reading East and Reading West

Looking at the wider Reading East and Reading West parliamentary constituencies, which include parts of West Berkshire and Wokingham, these are the figures:

Reading West     

Under 65: 12,767

65-69: 3,711

70-74: 4,049

Total: 27,953

While Reading East has a higher population overall, Reading West has an older population.

This explains why more people have been vaccinated in Reading West in every age group except under 65s.

Comparing Berkshire areas

The data shows Reading and Slough are far behind the other areas in Berkshire in terms of the percentage of the population that has received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine.

In Reading, just 22 per cent of people 16 and above have received a vaccine, while this goes up to 23 per cent in Slough.

In West Berkshire, Wokingham, Bracknell, and Windsor & Maidenhead between 31 and 33 per cent of people over 16 have received a dose of the vaccine.

And the statistics show Reading and Slough are behind the other areas in all age groups, with Reading having vaccinated the least amount of people in the 16-64 and 65-69 groups and Slough the least amount of people in the 70-74, 75-79 and 80+ groups.
