THE community has expressed its condolences after a man was fatally stabbed in Reading yesterday morning.

Shortly before 1am yesterday (February 14), police were called to Managua Close in Caversham.

A man, aged 24, was found with a stab wound to his chest and died at the scene.

National media reports have identified the victim as Yannick Cupido.

Police have been unable to officially confirm the victim's identity.

Commenting on the Chronicle's Facebook page, one reader said: "You don't expect this to happen on your doorstep."

Another added: "Sad to hear another death at the hands of knives thoughts with the victim and his family."

Adele Barnett-Ward is a councillor for Caversham and also the lead for Neighbourhood and Community.

She explained senior council staff met with police last week to discuss recent incidents in the area and ways to proactively tackle the issues.

She said: "We have established a close working relationship with the police and that is going to continue."

Ayo Sokale is also a councillor for Caversham.

She said: "My heart is out there with the family and those that are affected during this time."
