Newbury Central and Greenham is the area of West Berkshire that recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases last week.

Public Health England has broken down the data to show the number of confirmed cases recorded in local neighbourhoods, which are known as Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs).

The latest figures show 285 people tested positive for the virus in West Berkshire between January 23 and January 30. That’s 137 fewer than the previous week.

In Newbury Central and Greenham 20 people tested positive for the virus.

There were 20 confirmed cases in Newbury South West, 18 in Calcot North and Little Heath and 16 in Thatcham West.

Streatley and Pangbourne recorded 16 confirmed cases and Thatcham South East and Bradfield recorded 15.

There were 15 in Calcot, 14 in Westwood and 14 in Theale and Beenham.

  • Lambourn and Great Shefford – 2

When the second national lockdown was lifted on December 2, West Berkshire had one of the lowest infection rates in the country (54.9 cases per 100,000).

After a dramatic surge in cases, the infection rate peaked at 407.1 cases per 100,000 on January 1, but it is now at 179.9.

The Prime Minister has promised to set out the plan for lifting the lockdown in the week beginning February 22.

He has also said the government is aiming to reopen schools on March 8 at the earliest.
