2. 'Wash their feet': Dogs owners WARNED about rare but serious condition possibly linked to muddy walks

Sadly, local dog owners are being warned that a rare but serious condition is suspected to have affected some local pets following muddy walks.

Potential cases of Alabama rot, which dogs seem to develop in rare instances after being muddy woodlands, have been reported and circulating in local areas.

Burghfield and Goring Veterinary Surgeries was among one to have posted an update after social media posts were shared amongst various Facebook groups to warn people that a dog had died after developing the illness.

3. "Legend": Tributes made to school teacher who died of Covid-19

Tributes were made this week after a teacher at a school in Woodley sadly died after fighting the coronavirus illness earlier this month.

Victor Browne, CO-head of year 10 at the Bulmershe School, Woodley, passed away from Covid-19 on January 21.

Amanda Woofin, Bulmershe School headteacher, said in a tribute: "Vic Browne was a larger than life character, a very bright and colourful light in our school community.

4. Rapid Covid testing in Reading – two or three community sites planned

Rapid asymptomatic Covid tests will soon be introduced for all essential workers in Reading, with two or three community sites to be set up and big businesses to set up their own.

Lateral flow testing – also known as the antigen test – is currently taking place in universities, for returning students, and within the NHS and social care sector for staff.

5. Bereaved daughter of man, 85, who caught Covid says vaccines should have been given in homes faster

An 85-year-old man has died after contracting Covid-19 as his daughter said he was forced to cancel a vaccine appointment due to needing several vital hospital trips a week.

His distraught daughter is now questioning whether vaccines should have been administered across the country to vulnerable patients at home faster.

Ken Green, from Tilehurst, had a kidney disease which meant leaving his home three times a week for dialysis at the Royal Berkshire Hospital was vital.
