PEOPLE in Tilehurst are being urged to light up homes, shops, schools and businesses in blue to thank key workers later this year.

To mark the first anniversary of the first lockdown on March 23, residents are being asked to light up in blue to thank key workers who have continued to work throughout the pandemic and lockdowns.

The event is being organised by the group Turn Tilehurst Red for Remembrance Sunday.

There will be a special commemorative bench placed in the Triangle and people who have lost loved ones will be able to buy a tag to place on a tree of remembrance which will be lit up in blue.

These are £5 and can be ordered from Tilehurst Cobblers on School Road.

Families will also be able to place a flower with a message on the memorial as a mark of respect which can be laid on the afternoon of March 23.

The organisers said social distance measures will be followed and people wishing to lay flowers are being asked to wear a mask.

For people who don't have any lights, they are being asked to make a blue rainbow or heart and place it in their windows.

The event is to show key workers that the community appreciates their hard work.
