A recycling centre in west Reading could be expanded by demolishing a warehouse next door.

R Collard Ltd has submitted plans to demolish the old UPS depot on Cardiff Road and replace it with an extension to the M. Collard Recycling Centre.

The vacant building is not listed.

Collard Waste Management Services is a family-run company, providing skip hire and waste collection services.

The recycling centre is in the Richfield Avenue/Cardiff Road industrial estate, along with dozens of other warehouse buildings of different sizes and shapes.

The new building would be attached to the eastern side of the existing recycling centre building, to form an extension to it, and would providing an additional floorspace of around 1019sqm.

Two parking spaces with electric vehicle charging points would be added to the site.

Consultants WSP, writing on behalf of R Collard Ltd, said the development “will deliver a high-quality scheme” and is “acceptable in terms of principal, design and townscape, residential amenity, and environmental considerations, transport, and sustainability”.
