A NURSE at the Royal Berkshire Hospital has received a car parking ticket whilst parking in the staff carpark.

Shannon Smith, 22, has recently qualified as a nurse and parks her car in the staff’s South block car park when going to work.

She revealed she received a ticket at the end of March 2020 for “inappropriate parking” but said the lines in the carpark have faded.

Ms Smith added there were faded lines on one side of the parking space and no lines on the other on the day she received a ticket.

In letters sent to her, Ms Smith said she has been told if she does not pay the fine by January 15 she will be taken to court.

Speaking about the ticket, she said: “I was a bit annoyed really.

“I was more annoyed when they kept sending letters every three months or so.”

She added: “It’s the last thing you should be pestering people about at the moment.”

Ms Smith explained she tried to get in touch with the parking organisation but was not successful.

She also contacted the people sending her the reminder letters who explained they couldn’t make any changes to the fine.

A Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust spokesperson said: “Parking spaces at the RBH site are very limited which is why we have to ensure everyone using the site parks without causing a health and safety risk, e,g blocking access for emergency vehicles, and with consideration for other drivers.

“We are aware of the faded parking lines and are in the process of re-marking the car parking spaces which naturally suffer from wear and tear.

“Our priority is to carry out this work without causing too much disruption to staff and patient parking.”

Speaking earlier this week, Ms Smith said was going to pay the fine.
