POLICE have been given extra time to quiz five stabbing suspects after a teenager died in a park attack in Reading.

Olly Stephens was victim of a fatal stabbing which happened in Bugs Bottom fields, Emmer Green.

The 13 year old was killed in the attack which happened shortly before 4pm.

It has since sparked a major murder investigation as the area remains cordoned off for forensic teams to scour the scene.

Thames Valley Police arrested four boys and one girl - all aged between 13 and 14 - soon after the attack.

The five suspects from Berkshire have all been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

Officers this afternoon confirmed that police have been given extra time to question the teenagers before they are either charged or released.

Police can hold a person in custody for up to 24 hours before they have to charge or release a person. However, police can apply to hold suspects for up to 36 or 96 hours in relation to serious crimes such as in a suspected murder case.
