More than a thousand people have signed a petition to reinstate a beloved street food caterer outside Reading FC’s Madejski Stadium for matchdays.

Blue Collar Street Food announced in late November that Reading FC had dropped its contract to provide food outside the ground, causing upset among local football fans.

The Reading-based company serves residents in the town’s Market Place Square, as well as catering outside the Madjeski Stadium, but the football club have decided to not renew the contract.

Reading FC fan Dave Harris, who set up the petition, gave an update on the petition on Twitter.

He said: “Quick update on the @bluecollarfood petition. It has been presented to Reading FC by the Supporters' Trust At Reading on behalf of all supporters and will be followed up in due course.

“Still time to sign if you haven’t!”

Back in November, Blue Collar posted a thread on Twitter announcing the news, saying: “We had an absolute blast doing it while we could and you can still find us every week, smashing out street food in the town centre.

“Thank you – it’s been sweeter than that Robin Friday volley against Tranmere.”

Fans have praised the food provided by Blue Collar in their comments on the petition page.

Simon Frost said: “Really like the range of food available. It really adds to the experience.”

While Yvonne Hounsome said: “The food is amazing and so much better than everything else on offer.”

And Matthew Batten said: “The match day experience will be so much worse without it.”

Others have highlighted the importance of supporting local business.

Richard Stone said: “Supporting local businesses is important in current climate. This is a step backwards.”

And Helen Talaga said: “I’m signing this because a local team should support local businesses.”
