TRAVELLERS who set up camp at Prospect Park in Reading have left the site.

Reading Borough Council (RBC) said following an eviction of a group from Hill's Meadow Car Park the travellers moved overnight to Prospect Park.

Officers from RBC's antisocial behaviour team visited both sites yesterday morning (December 10) to complete the necessary paperwork and carry out welfare checks.

A spokesperson for the council said: "The group consists of 12 caravans and associated vehicles.

"At about 12.30pm the council formally requested that the police use their S61 powers to direct the group to leave, on the grounds that their presence at the site would severely disrupt the Covid-19 Mobile Testing Unit.

"The police have agreed to the council’s request and will direct the group to leave the site by 10am Friday 11 December.

"As always, any anti-social or criminal behaviour should be reported to the police via 101."

Speaking today, the council said the community left Prospect Park last night and the area is now clear of the encampment.
