More than 200 people across Berkshire have tested positive for coronavirus, official figures show.

The latest figures from Public Health England show the total Berkshire cases now stand at 15,714, after an additional 204 people tested positive in the past 24 hours.

Public Health England recorded the 204 lab-confirmed coronavirus cases in areas including Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures, correct as of 4.17pm on Tuesday, December 8.

The local breakdown for the past 24 hours as follows:

  • Bracknell - 32 cases, 1668 total
  • Wokingham - 30 cases, 2,390 total
  • Reading - 40 cases, 3,007
  • Slough - 68 cases, 4,301
  • Windsor and Maidenhead - 25 cases 2,574 total
  • West Berkshire- 19 cases, 1,774 total

The latest seven-day rate per 100,000 people locally are as follows:

  • Wokingham - 132.1 (Compared to 102.3 on Nov 31)
  • Reading - 145.3 (Compared to 129.8 on Nov 31)
  • Bracknell Forest - 144.4 (Compared to 68.5 on Nov 31)
  • Slough - 240.7 (Compared to 299.6 on Nov 31)
  • West Berkshire - 53 (Compared to 63.7 on Nov 31)
  • Windsor and Maidenhead - 112.9 (Compared to 109 on Nov 31)

There have now been 1,750,241 cases of Covid-19 across the UK – as of Tuesady, December 8 at 4.06pm - a daily increase of 12,282 cases.

A UK grandmother has become the first person in the world to be given the Pfizer Covid-19 jab as part of a mass vaccination programme.

Margaret Keenan, who turns 91 next week was given the injection at 06:31 GMT - the first of 800,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine that will be dispensed in the coming weeks.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stopped by at Reading's Royal Berkshire Hospital today as part of their Whistlestop Royal train tour of the UK.

The Royal couple thanked NHS staff, nurses, midwives and key workers for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock expects Covid restriction to be lifted in spring and has "great hopes" for a more normal summer in 2021.

Speaking to the Commons Mr Hancock said: "I do have high confidence that the summer of 2021 will be a bright one without the sort of restrictions that made the summer of 2020 more restrictive. I've booked my holiday. I'm going to Cornwall."
