Plans for 260 homes at Reading Golf Club (RGC) have been withdrawn after more than 2,000 objections.
The club notified the council it wanted to withdraw the application on November 25.
RGC had signed up developer Fairfax and housebuilder Redrow to deliver the family homes, planned at the south part of the site by Kidmore End Road.

But the plans drew swathes of astonishment and fury from residents, who say the homes will spoil the area and claim there is not enough infrastructure to cope with 260 extra families in the area.
Keep Emmer Green, a campaign group formed by local residents, said the development is “unsustainable”.
Its aim is to “stop development of local green spaces at the expense of everybody who already lives, works and goes to school here” and says the 2,000+ objections is the greatest number RBC has ever received for a single planning application.
But the club said the move to Caversham Heath Golf Club was decided two years ago, is already underway, and will provide certainty for the future of the club as well as retaining employment for nearly 40 employees.
It said the plan would bring clear benefits, including affordable housing, a network of public walkways and cycleways, a country park area, leisure facilities and healthcare.

A new application is expected in 2021, according to KEG.
The club has been approached for comment.
