CHRISTMAS is less than one month away and one Tilehurst resident is helping to spread cheer by covering her house and front garden in festive lights.

Each year Kaylee Seymour puts up decorations outside her house in order to raise money for a charity close to her family's heart.

Kaylee's 23 year old brother suffers with a heart disease and is often in hospital in Southampton for treatment.

Whilst he is in hospital, Kaylee and other family members are able to stay at Heartbeat House which is right next door.

Heartbeat House provides free accommodation for relatives when their loved ones are having hospital treatment.

Every Christmas Kaylee puts on a light display to raise money for Heartbeat House.

She said: "It’s really important to try and keep it going especially in these difficult times at the moment."

Kaylee said her Christmas event is the main way she raises money for the charity.

The festive decorations include Santa and his reindeer on the roof, Christmas trees, a Nativity set and in previous years there has even been a grotto where Santa gives out goodie bags to children.

In past years people have made donations for refreshments such as tea and coffee, hotdogs and cakes and enjoyed firework displays.

However this year the celebrations will be different due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The lights switch on will be viewed by people online on the events Facebook page here.

There will be none of the usual events taking place but the lights will be on every evening from 6pm until 9pm.

The virtual switch on will take place on December 2 a date which is important to Kaylee and her family.

The date is the anniversary of her father's death and she explained she found out he had passed away whilst putting up Christmas lights.

She said: "The Christmas lights are so important to us for that reason."

If you would like to see the lights the address is Hugh Fraser Drive, Tilehurst.

People can donate money in a giving pot outside the house or donate online.
