A motorcyclist has moved to reassure people that his group are nothing like the characters of popular TV show Sons of Anarchy.

Craig Elliot, who is a member of Workington-based motorcycle club Tribe Cumbria, is keen to tear down the stigma sometimes associated with bikers.

“People go round and have this assumption that we are like Sons of Anarchy and it is gutting, it is not nice," he said.

"At the remembrance parades or armed forces parades people see us coming down the street and they’re clapping and cheering; that is what we want.

“Not people thinking we are like Sons of Anarchy.”

The TV show follows the Sons of Anarchy, aka SAMCRO, a motorcycle club that operates both illegal and legal businesses in the fictional town of Charming.

Craig and his group are keen to raise the profile of bikers in the area, who do a lot for local communities.

Tribe Cumbria has recently been volunteering at Tesco in Workington selling poppies, with many members volunteering in their own time to sell poppies to help raise funds for the Royal British Legion(RBL).

They were also involved in a ride through Workington on Remembrance Sunday so they could lay a wreath at the cenotaph and pay their respects to the fallen.

This saw them donate £100 to the RBL.

Their latest mission was to help out the food bank at Moorclose. They spent £200 on shopping, before delivering it to the foodbank.

“We are looking to do something for the local children’s ward at the West Cumberland Hospital by delivering presents to the children,” continued Craig.

“We are trying to change peoples’ opinions, it is not about publicity.

“We strongly believe that during these hard times, now more than ever communities should stand together.”

The group has been running since April 2018 and has 12 members.
