The following cases were heard at Reading Magistrates’ Court:

October 26:

DARREN CHAMBERS, 36, of Kersey Crescent, Speen, admitted failing to comply with a community order made by Reading Magistrates Court by failing to attend a rehabilitation activity requirement on January 14. Fined £50. 

LAYMAR CLIBBON, 27, of Fairisle Way, Reading, admitted failing to comply with a community order made by Reading Magistrates Court by failing to attend scheduled telephone appointments on May 4 and June 8. Ordered to pay £60 court costs.

PAUL DAY, 41, of Tilehurst Road, Reading, admitted failing to comply with a community order made by Reading Magistrates Court by failing to maintain contact with probation and provide contact details. Ordered to pay £20 court costs. 

NATHAN KIRK, 42, of St Michael’s Road, Newbury, admitted failing to comply with a community requirement of a suspended sentence order made by Reading Magistrates Court by failing to attend planned telephone calls with his responsible officer on June 8, June 11, June 15, and June 19. Suspended sentence order varied. 

October 27: 

IONEL COCOS, 39, of Bishops Road, Reading, convicted of drink-driving on Croft Road, Swindon, on September 28. Found to have 109mcg alcohol per 100ml breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35mcg. Also admitted drink-driving on Bishops Road, Reading, on October 26. Found to have 106mcg alcohol per 100ml breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35mcg. Given a community order including 250 hours unpaid work. Also ordered to pay £95 victim surcharge and £170 total court costs. Disqualified from driving for 28 months.

AKRAM JABBARKHEL, 40, of Elm Park Road, Reading, admitted driving without third party insurance on Edinburgh Road, Reading, on August 22. Also admitted driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence on Edinburgh Road, Reading, on August 22. Given a conditional discharge for 12 months. Also ordered to pay £22 victim surcharge. Six points added to driving licence. 

MICHAEL BROOKS, 73, of Shinfield Road, Reading, admitted speeding on London Road, Sunningdale, on December 19, 2018. Found to be driving over the 30mph limit. Fined £100. Also ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Three points added to driving licence. 

WILLIAM COOKE, 30, of Beatty Drive, Tilehurst, admitted driving otherwise in accordance with a licence on Beatty Drive, Tilehurst, on April 26. Also admitted to driving without the correct insurance on Beatty Drive, Tilehurst, on April 26, and admitted using fraudulent car registration plates in Reading on April 26. Fined £200 total. Also ordered to pay £34 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Six points added to driving licence. 

MOHAMMED REHMAN, 20, of Chiltern Crescent, Reading, admitted possession of Cannabis in Reading on October 15, 2019. Fined £80. Also ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. 

FARIS SHEIKH, 18, of Chiltern Crescent, Reading, admitted possession of cannabis in Reading on October 15, 2019. Fined £80 and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. 

GRAHAM BOWMAN, 49, of Derwent Road, West Berkshire, convicted of assault by beating in Thatcham on May 21. Fined £560. Also ordered to pay £200 compensation. Also ordered to pay £56 victim surcharge and £500 court costs.

A fundamental principle of justice is that it must be seen to be done. The principle of open justice is acclaimed on a number of grounds: as a safeguard against judicial error, to assist the deterrent function of criminal trials and to permit the revelation of matters of interest.
