A GREENGROCERS and halal butchers in Earley is fighting to the rights to manage a 'much needed' post office.

Fadi Ibrahim, Earley resident and business owner of the independently managed greengrocer, butcher, and supermarket, Fad, started the petition on Tuesday, November 3, in order to allow his business to enable him to include a post office.

The previous business owning the building had a Post Office available, however it was discontinued in December 2019.

The petition is calling for the Post Office to 'honour their agreement' and to continue the agreement previously made, namely by facilitating 'the opening of a much needed post office'.

So far, the petition has gained more than 250 physical signatures.

Cllr Tahir Maher, Lib Dem for Earley ward, said: “Post Office Ltd. has told Councillors that they are prioritising existing post offices during the pandemic.

"We understand times are difficult.

"However, we believe this is very unfair to Fadi and to our residents, because the agreement to open the post office was signed before the pandemic.

"I encourage people to come to FAD to sign the petition to help us get the post office opened."
