A READING school has closed today (November 9) to most pupils after a teacher tested positive for Covid-19.

Parents received news yesterday evening that children in years 8 - 11 at the Wren School should stay at home as a precautionary measure.

Students in Year 7 have still been expected to attend the Bath Road school.

A letter on the school website says: "This member of staff has taught students across a range of different year groups, and whilst social distancing and other preventative measures have been in place, we believe this is the correct precautionary measure.

"This member of staff has not taught any student within Year 7.

"We will contact Public Health England first thing on Monday morning to carry out a full risk assessment with them, and will then advise parents/carers of the next steps and the outcome of this assessment.

"I realise that this message will cause some concern and worry, and I also apologise for the late notice of this message.

"Your child's health and wellbeing remains my priority.

"Our remote learning plan will be in affect and lesson details will be shared on class charts and Microsoft Teams."

During the second lockdown, which is expected to be in place until December 2, schools have remained open, while other establishments are being advised to close offices for employees to work from home "if they can".

Principal of The Wren School, Mr J Salberg ended the letter to patents by saying he would be in further contact with them for updates.
