COVID-19 has impacted all ages in Reading — with 13 under-fours getting the virus.

The latest figures also reveal far more people aged under 60 in Reading are getting the virus than those aged above 60.

Statistics published by Public Health England show coronavirus cases in Reading have been recorded in every five-year age group between 0 and 90+, since the beginning of the pandemic in March until October 23.

The figures show there were 1,484 cases between that period, while the latest data shows, as of November 1, the total number of coronavirus cases in Reading has now surpassed 1,600.

Cases have peaked in the 20 to 24-year-old age group, with  more than 150 cases reported by October 23 – accounting for more than 10 per cent of the total cases at that time.

The figures below are of those reported between March and October 23.

Children and teenagers

Figures for the period from March 4 up until October 23 show 13 cases recorded in children aged between 0 to four and 11 cases in five to nine-year-olds.

There are similar figures in children between 10 and 14, with 19 positive cases identified, but the number of cases jumps up hugely among 15 to 19-year-olds to 111.

Adults under 60

The biggest number of cases were found in adults in their 20s and early 30s.

There were 152 cases among 20 to 24-year-olds, 139 cases reported for 25 to 29-year-olds and 145 cases for those aged 30 to 34.

The first positive case identified in Reading, on March 8, was found in someone aged between 30 and 34.

The case numbers drop for those in their late 30s and early 40s, with 119 reported in both age ranges.

This fall in cases continues among 45 to 49-year-olds, with 100 cases identified.

For those in their 50s, 87 people tested positive for the virus in each age group.

The most vulnerable: 60+

While older people are at more risk from the virus, younger people are much more likely to get the virus, with 1,109 cases among people aged 0 to 59 in Reading compared to 368 among the 60+.

There were 73 cases reported for people aged from 60 to 64 and 54 cases for those aged 65 to 69.

This drops further for those in their 70s, with 34 cases reported in both age groups.

But the figures rise for those in their 80s, with 53 cases recorded in 80 to 84-year-olds and 68 cases in those aged 85 to 89.

Finally, in the oldest age group of 90+, there have been with 52 positive tests.

Seven cases have not been assigned to any age groups.

The day with the most cases

The figures are recorded by specimen date, which means the date the sample was taken from the person tested.

The date when there were the most positive samples so far is October 14 — with 42 confirmed cases across a wide range of age groups.

The second highest day was April 14, when there were 37 cases.
