It has been revealed when burger-lovers can finally pick up or take away a bender in a bun from Berkshire's new Wimpy.

As revealed in June, the popular sit-down fast-food chain submitted plans to open up a restaurant in Bracknell at Princess Square.

One month later, Bracknell Forest Council gave the designs the go-ahead marking Wimpy’s return to Berkshire.

A new Wimpy recently opened in Slough, but burgers from this eatery were only available for delivery.

Few details about the diner’s moving-in have emerged since then, however.

And work has yet to start on the Princess Square unit.

We contacted Wimpy to ask when burger fanatics would be able to grab a quarterpounder or two.

A spokesperson said work on the new store would begin in the new year.

They added: “We are delighted to say that work on our new Wimpy will begin early in the new year.

“We know from the public’s response when the plans were first revealed, that there is a lot of love for Wimpy and we are all very much looking forward to bringing our fabulous burgers and our special brand of customer service to the town.”

“ Wimpy is well-known for its good value, freshly-cooked to order food and its table service approach.

“Home delivery and takeaway services will also be available in due course.

“The new Wimpy Bracknell will be based in the Princess Square shopping centre, although no firm date has yet been set for the opening.”

According to planning documents, the eatery would be open from 9am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays.

Twenty jobs could be created by the new addition to the town.

Wimpy is renowned for its burger choices and its menu includes beef and chicken burgers as well as a range of veggie options.

The list also features 'fish plates' and breakfast options, as well as a kids menu.

Wimpy opened its first site in London in 1954 and became a global brand by 1970.

The chain had more than 500 locations in the UK at its commercial peak, according to Vice.

There was also a Wimpy restaurant in Calcot near Reading, where Ikea now stands.

There are now 72 sites listed on Wimpy’s UK website.
