Hemdean House School’s last day before the half-term break was transformed into a dress-up/ dress down day to collect money for charity.

The Year 1 class chose the charity and nearly £200 was raised to sponsor a guide dog.

The schools’ usual fundraising events had to be rethought, due to the strict Covid measures in place.

Pupils were asked to dress in home clothes or costumes ahead of Halloween in exchange for a donation.

The school’s staff didn’t miss the chance to inject a little colour into autumn and dress as characters from Roger Hargreaves’ much loved Little Miss and Mr Men book series.

While the outlines of the characters were drawn on cardboard by the teachers, it was the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who painted them.

Mrs Chalmers, Head Teacher at Hemdean House, said: “Our Early Years team came up with the idea for the staff to dress up as these wonderful colourful characters.

"Requests were received and turned into Little Miss and Mr Men by our Pre-Prep children.

"We are very proud of everyone for their efforts and they turned out beautifully.

"We would also like to thank our lovely parents and children for their generous donations.

"Year 1 is looking forward to sponsoring a Guide Dog."

Guide Dogs help provide independence and freedom to people who are blind or partially sighted and the sponsorship money is used to fund food and vet bills for puppies in training.
