A kind-hearted mum is hoping to end hygiene poverty in Bracknell by helping babies and toddlers in need.

Beckie Baxter from Harmans Water felt inspired to help families who are less fortunate after seeing a shocking advert about hygiene poverty, which read 'Imagine having to scrape out your baby’s dirty nappy and to re-use it because you don’t have any more'.

Usually, the mum-of-one would look to helping others this time of year, either through helping collect items for an orphanage in Romania or helping collect Christmas donations for poor families.

She said: "This really got to me, as a mum of a 3 year old I instantly thought this isn’t right and I want and need to help those babies and toddlers living in poverty.

"The charity advertising this is The Hygiene Bank. After further investigation is seems that there isn’t a Hygiene bank in Bracknell and so I have applied to set this up and work alongside the charity."

As such, Beckie has set up a social media group called Bracknell Nappy Angels, where people can donate unwanted packs of nappies, wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dummies and more.

Residents in Bracknell have showered her door with donations, leaving her feeling overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.

The senior property manager for Prospect Estate Agents added: "The response has been absolutely phenomenal, everyone who has donated has really pulled together and the donations haven’t stopped coming to my door. I’m collecting nappies, wipes, toothbrushes toothpastes, nappy sacks, cotton wool, dummies, baby washing powder, baby shampoo, creams, nappy cream etc.

"Sadly I, and many others didn’t even know hygiene poverty exists and items are in such demand at the moment, and will sadly only get worse as families lose work and income.

"No one should not have access to basic hygiene products and we need to stop hygiene poverty."

The Bracknell resident hopes to collect donations to help adults too with deodorant, sanitary wear, loo rolls, shampoo and more.
