THE mother of a teenage boy with cancer has written a book about her family’s journey and it is now available for readers to buy.

Charlie Ilsley, 13, from Emmer Green was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, the most high-grade brain tumour found in children when he was eight years old.

He has undergone countless operations and even more hospital trips since to help rid him of this cancer.

His mum, Toni, has written a book about the family’s journey with Charlie since his cancer diagnosis in 2015.

Toni said: “It’s called ‘Never Give Up’ because we never will.”

Toni said the book is now out on Amazon and is available for people to buy.

Speaking about why she decided to write the book, Toni said: “I wrote it for a lot of reasons.

“I needed to get it out of my head and on paper.”

She continued: “I didn’t want to forget any details because Charlie was too young to remember most of it.”

Toni explained it’s “brilliant” because all the money made from the book will go to Charlie’s fund to help pay for treatments.

Charlie flew to Mexico for potentially life-saving treatment in June this year but a follow up scan showed a “small progression” in Charlie’s spine and a little area in the back of his head.

He is currently back in Mexico with Toni and dad Mark undergoing more treatment including Immunotherapy which has been injected straight into his spine.

The family is expecting to fly back home to England on October 30.

Toni said the staff at the hotel have been “amazing”.

She explained the hotel is empty of guests and so Charlie has nobody to play with in the pool except his mum and dad.

So, the hotel bought him his very own boat to play with.

Toni explained that Charlie’s doctor wants him to have another MRI scan at the beginning of December in order to see whether his treatment has worked.

The Chronicle has launched a campaign to help support the family.
