A FUNDRAISER has been held to raise money for a teenage boy’s cancer treatment in Mexico.

Charlie Ilsley, 13, from Emmer Green, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, the most high-grade brain tumour found in children when he was eight years old.

He has undergone countless operations and even more hospital trips since to help rid him of this cancer.

He flew to Mexico for potentially life-saving treatment in June but a follow up scan showed a “small progression” in Charlie’s spine and a little area in the back of his head.

Devoted mother and father Toni and Mark Ilsley and Charlie flew back to Mexico on October 8 so their son could have more treatment and the trio remain there now.

Tesco in Henley, where Toni worked in the pharmacy for 16 years, held a fundraising event on Saturday, October 10.

The store team set up a Tesco finest hamper which was raffled off for donations.

All of the staff members wore red too at the family’s request as red is one of Charlie’s favourite colours.

In total, the store said it managed to raise approximately £1,000 for Charlie which Toni said “was amazing and a real big help towards treatment”.

A Tesco spokesperson added: “We’re delighted to help raise money for Charlie and would like to thank all our colleagues and customers at Henley superstore who donated to the raffle and wore red to show our support for him and his family.”

Charlie started treatment last week called Intrathecal Immunotherapy which was administered directly into his spine.

Toni said Charlie’s “legs went a bit numb after the spinal injection so we have swapped to vein in arm this week”.

In between treatment, Toni said Charlie has been enjoying trips to Walmart and swimming in the hotel’s pool.

The family will be staying in Mexico until October 30 because Charlie’s treatment timings were slightly changed for safety reasons.

The Chronicle has launched a campaign to help support the family.
