A CAFE boat in Worcester has been taken on by new owners after being empty for months due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Café Afloat, moored at Worcester’s Diglis Basin, will reopen under new management.

The doors will reopen again to the public on Wednesday, October 21 at 8am.

The previous owner and the brainchild of the boat cafe, Jacqui Taylor, was forced to close for four months during the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite reopening for a short period, Jacqui announced on Facebook that she had decided to hang up her apron after 10 years and she was seeking a new captain to take on the business.

The business was valued for £85,000 – that included the boat but not the equipment inside.

The average running cost for the boat per month is about £500 - that includes mooring, electricity, insurance and the business licence.

Worcester News readers were saddened to hear Jacqui and Chris were selling the business.

Meolemucker said: “Will miss the floating cafe, would always call in when walking along the riverside and Diglis canal, Always made to feel welcome, and never a problem to take the dog aboard. Wishing Jacqui and son Chris all the best.”

worcester man said: “Such a shame. With so many coffee chains dominating the market the Cafe Afloat offered something different. Hopefully someone else will take it on and keep this quirky Worcester institution, well, afloat!”
