As the Championship is in the middle of an international break, news on the transfer front has been quiet over the past week but below we take a look at the transfer news that has occurred since last Monday’s international deadline, an injury update from the Championship and other news regarding England’s second tier.

The big news over the last week revolves around the managerial circuit as the first departures of the 2020/21 campaign were announced.

Gerhard Struber departed Barnsley for New York Red Bulls while Sabri Lamouchi was relieved of his duties at Nottingham Forest.

New York have reportedly paid a substantial release cause for the Austrian manager to Barnsley and the Tykes are now in the search of a replacement.

Meanwhile Forest were quick to act on the managerial front, hiring Chris Hughton as Lamouchi’s replacement.

Barnsley have been grabbing headlines across the week with a manager departure, player sacking and a new signing.

Bambo Diaby, who was banned in January after failing a drugs test, heard the result of a verdict and now faces a two-year ban from all football related activity after being found guilty of doping.

The 22-year-old now faces a year and half out of the game after serving six months on remand and has been immediately released by the Yorkshire side.

Since the international transfer window closed last Monday night, movement between the EFL and the Premier League is still open to negotiation until Friday 16th at 5pm in a domestic transfer window.

This has opened the possibilities of Premier League players making the move down to the Championship on loan or vice versa.

Craig Dawson has therefore joined West Ham United on a season long loan from Watford while Patrick Roberts has returned to Middlesbrough on loan from Manchester City.

Barnsley have turned to the lower leagues to secure reinforcements for their squad, signing Callum Brittain from MK Dons. The 22-year-old defender joins the Reds for an undisclosed fee.

Further transfer news that has been announced since last Monday includes Championship players making loan deals overseas.

Norwich defender Timm Klose confirmed a deal with FC Basel and Stoke’s Dutch international defender Bruno Martins Indi departs for AZ Alkmaar.

Danny Welbeck also released himself from Watford and has now become a free agent opening the possibility of an overseas move although the deadline has passed from club to club.

Blackburn Rovers also announced the arrival of Antonis Stergiakis from Slavia Sofia. The paperwork for the goalkeeper went in before the international deadline with the announcement being made the following day.

On the injury front, along with Reading hearing the news of Felipe Araruna and John Swift facing lengthy periods out, a number of other Championship clubs face early disappointment in the fitness department.

Rotherham’s Chidozie Ogbene faces four months out following knee surgery while Tom Dele-Bashiru, who was stretchered off in Watford’s defeat to the Royals has confirmed he faces a lengthy period out with an ACL injury.

Finally, in former Royals news, Chris Gunter has a new club, signing for Charlton Athletic. The 31-year-old full back was released by Reading at the end of the 2020/21 campaign and has now agreed a deal with the League One outfit.
