A RETIRED make-up artist for film will climb the 50m tall 02 Arena to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Tracey Curnock watched ITV’s Lorraine show from a hospital bed with a twisted gut last year.

The host was encouraging people to check their breasts and that’s when Tracey felt a lump.

Since getting her diagnosis she’s undergone a full left mastectomy, two lumpectomies and 12 weeks of chemotherapy.

Tracey, of Royal Wootton Bassett, wants to face this challenge to get women and men to check for breast cancer.

She told the Adver: “I’m really excited to do it. Cancer is very sad and it affects a lot of people’s lives, I’m very proud to be doing this and helping raise awareness.

“My daughter told me ‘mum you’re such an inspiration to so many people’ which was so lovely to hear.

“I’m pleased to work with the Change and Check campaign because we’ve got men and women to check and get a diagnosis.”

The make-up artist has worked on film sets such as Fantastic Beasts and with stars including Natalie Portman, Judge Law, Julia Roberts and Stanley Kubrick but had to make the decision to retire after getting her diagnosis.

“I’ve had to retire because I don’t have the strength or energy anymore,” she said.

“It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, I’m devastated.”

Tracey will need to have chemo infusions for six months followed by a mammogram.

She will complete the challenge alongside 30 other women and will feature on the Lorraine Show on September 30.

Its producer Helen Addis started the Change and Check campaign after she got her own cancer diagnosis, she also started an Instagram page called The Titty Gritty.

Helen invited Tracey to join these women who also learned they had cancer after watching to show.

To be safe because of the coronavirus crisis they will climb up the 02 in groups of four and socially distance while they all wear pink.

Their idea is to make the top of the 02 look like a nipple on national TV.

Tracey said: “It will also help to raise money for Future Dreams, a small charity who helps support people with breast cancer.

"It was started up by a lady who had breast cancer and unfortunately her daughter was diagnosed too and now they’re organising this climb."
