A DEDICATED fundraiser from Reading will be walking thirteen miles this weekend to raise money for a young man's cancer treatment.

Lee Anderson, 41, has been supporting cancer research for many years but wanted to see where his money was going and how it was helping people.

He put out a Facebook request to offer funding to an individual through various sponsorships and activities.

Shelley King from Ashford Middlesex took Lee up on his offer four year's ago.

Shelley's 18 year old son Alfie was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma when he was five and a half years old and has been receiving treatment since.

Alfie is now battling the disease for the fourth time.

Over the years, Lee has organised auctions, raffles and walks totalling £5,000 in sponsorship for Alfie.

This weekend (September 26) is no exception as Lee will be walking the equivalent of a half marathon with friends Elise Buckthorpe and Dominic Green.

Lee explained the London Shine walk was cancelled because of Covid-19 but they will walk the 13 miles over night in London to honour their support for Alfie.

In doing so Lee will raise £2010 from sponsorship from local businesses and clubs: Tilehurst Plumbing and Heating; B&M; Autosigns; CTG; Emmer Green Gymnastic Club; Crimson Heat Cheerleading; Tonna Care; Res Systems; Extenchar; Forresters; Spoons Café; Gemma Bakeswell; SR Fencing; Miami Burgers; Tesco Reading West and The Reading Chronicle.

Shelley explained they are raising money to go to New York for a vaccine and hope to go when Alfie is in remission.

She added: "Thank you to all the people in Reading who have sponsored Lee."

She also gave a "massive" thanks to Lee who she said is now a friend for life.
