OXFORD's Lord Mayor will be holding a meeting with the county's scouts as part of his monthly calendar of meetings.

Green city councillor and Lord Mayor Craig Simmons will meet with the Oxfordshire Scouts for a Zoom meeting today, as the group holds its AGM.

Mr Simmons will be meeting with year five students from Wood Farm Primary School later this month on September 29, also via a video call.

He will then officiate Oxford City Council's meeting on October 5, acting as its chairman.

The Lord Mayor's first face-to-face event since lockdown began was a commemoration in August of the 75th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

He has also recently reopened a vegan-friendly cafe in Cowley after it underwent a refurbishment.

Mr Simmons term of office as the city's Lord Mayor was extended at the start of lockdown after an agreement among city councillors.

While there is usually a Mayor-making ceremony in May, Mr Simmons will instead hand over his chain of office to Mark Lygo in November.

During lockdown, the Lord Mayor had been attending virtual events to carry out his ceremonial duties while outdoor visits were not allowed.
