A MAN who ran from police and spat wraps of cocaine down a drain has been convicted of drug offences in Reading.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) said Lumko Nikanyuza, aged 28, of Salstone Lane, Hackney pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug – cocaine at Reading Magistrates court on Wednesday (September 16).

The conviction relates to an incident which happened at about 2.05pm on Tuesday (September 15) in Prospect Street, Reading.

The force explained officers attempted to stop Nikanyuza but was chased when he ran off.

They detained him shortly after where he spat approximately 57 wraps of cocaine down a drain.

Police said officers were able to retrieve the wraps from the drain.

Nikanyuza was arrested on Tuesday (September 15) and charged on the same day.

TVP said he will be sentenced at a later date.
