Representatives for the food store, based on County Lane, responded to two charges at a hearing earlier this year before appearing in court again earlier this week.

Charges brought forward by Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) accused Tesco of failing to discharge their general health and safety duty to a member of the public, as well as failing to discharge their health and safety duty to an employee from a period between April 2017 and December 2017.

Tesco plead guilty to both charges in February, admitting to ‘failing’ to ‘ensure [members of the public and employees] were not exposed to risks to their health and safety’.

Specific details relating to how Tesco breached its duty to ensure the health and safety of its employees and the public were not disclosed at a hearing on Wednesday, September 16.

The court heard that the hearing for the supermarket’s sentencing will take place on Tuesday, December 15 at Reading Magistrates Court.

The maximum penalty Tesco could face is an unlimited fine.
