What’s a Covid-secure venue?

A Covid-secure venue is one that has been prepared to host larger numbers of people following safety guidelines.

They should have multiple exits and entry points: with a one-way flow in and out of the premises, appropriate floor markings or signage with the needs of people with disabilities catered for.

In other words, a professionally run venue with surfaces cleaned properly and regularly. Private homes or gardens would not fulfil these criteria.

Anyone can attend as a guest in the normal course of events. But obviously someone who is showing symptoms has been in contact with anyone showing symptoms or has recently visited a place where self-isolation is required on return must not attend.

In England, the “1m plus” means you can stay within 1 metre from people outside your bubble as long as other risk-mitigation factors are in place, such as wearing a face mask.

Additionally, guests should avoid singing or shouting as this can increase the risk of transmission. Dancing, unfortunately, is not permitted.

If you are attending a wedding, make sure you are washing your hands regularly for more than 20 seconds or using hand sanitiser.

Do I need to wear a face mask?

Face coverings are required in places of worship. This applies to guests at weddings and civil partnership ceremonies including those taking place in register offices or other approved venues.

Face coverings will not have to be worn by the bride, groom or civil partners.
