THE weather might not have been there on the day, but nothing could dampen the spirits of the Co-op team in Pangbourne as they rolled up their sleeves and got to washing cars in aid of Mind, the Co-op’s charity partner.

Colleagues came from as far afield as Southampton to lend a hand.

Phanice Garner, Co-op Pangbourne petrol store manager, said: “It was such a lovely day.

"The team really pulled together.

"So far we have raised more than £800 and our raffle will stay open until the end of September, when we draw the winner.

“I must thank our car wash partner Carl Tipper at Wilcomatic for agreeing to close for a day and helped us with washing materials.

"It wouldn’t have been possible without that.”

Co-op and Mind are working together to improve mental well being with the aim of empowering communities, and individuals, and providing support when things feel like they are getting too much.

Paul Farmer, Mind CEO, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Co-op colleagues for getting completely stuck into this month’s fundraising for the charity partnership.

“One in four people experience a mental health problem in a year.

"That’s someone in every family, workplace and friendship circle.

"In the UK it's about 14m people. That's why the Co-op has teamed up with Mind in England."

Co-op Area manager Amanda Fleming, who herself cleaned a couple of cars, added: "At Co-op we are very committed to supporting Mind across a number of events this year.

"This was a great day led by Phanice and supported by many colleagues from across the Area team.

“Huge thanks also to the local community who supported us brilliantly all day long.

"I hope everyone enjoyed taking part and we are all looking forward to hosting more events in the weeks ahead.”
