READING has been ranked as the most pet-friendly commuter town.

Inventory Base has examined the top commuter hotspots outside of London to see which ones dog lovers should rent in.

By finding out how many pet-friendly rentals, pooch-friendly pubs and green spaces can be found in popular locations under 30 minutes away from London, they ranked some of London’s commuter spots based on how welcome you and your dog will be.

With the highest number of green spaces and dog-friendly pubs, Reading came first.

It was followed by Watford and then Maidenhead which has the highest percentage of pet-friendly rental properties (21.74 per cent).

Inventory Base explained interest in properties outside the city rose by 126 per cent in June and July and garden space became one of the most sought-after amenities.

In addition, searches for buying a puppy increased by more than 150 per cent since March.

Inventory Base's research found Shenfield to be the worst commuter town for pet owners.

With no pet-friendly pubs or green spaces to call its own, Shenfield ranked the worst followed by Waltham Cross and Gerrard's Cross.

Commuter towns were identified as towns within a 30 minute commute time using Totally Money’s Commuter Hotspot tool.

Rental data was taken from Zoopla, pet-friendly pubs from DoggiePubs and green spaces from TripAdvisor.

Towns which had the same average ranking were then ordered by the number of pet-welcoming rental properties available.
