GOOGLE is using location data gathered from phones to help public health officials understand how people’s movements have changed in response to the global coronavirus pandemic.
The reports use data from people who have opted in to storing their location history with Google to help illustrate the degree to which people are adhering to government instructions.

The Covid-19 Community Mobility Report dated August 16 looks at data between Sunday, July 5, and Sunday August 16, 2020.
The data shows there has been a large increase in the number of people visiting parks - a 54 per cent increase compared to the baseline.
Similarly, there has been a rise in visits to residential properties (5 per cent increase compared to the baseline).
Conversely, there has been a drop in the number of people using public transport such as buses and trains (a 48 per cent decrease compared to the baseline).

Workplaces have also seen a drop in the number of people visiting (10 per cent drop compared to the baseline).
Trips to supermarkets and pharmacies has decreased by 27 per cent compared to the baseline.
