A TEENAGER who flew to Mexico for potentially life-saving cancer treatment has received his scan results which show the “cancer is stable”.

Charlie Ilsley flew abroad for Immunotherapy with his mum Toni and dad Mark back in June.

The teenager from Emmer Green was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, the most high-grade brain tumour found in children when he was eight years old.

He has undergone countless operations and even more hospital trips since to help rid him of this cancer.

After finishing treatment in Mexico, Toni, Charlie and dad Mark returned to England to self-isolate.

Toni, her 31-year-old daughter Jess and Charlie have since returned to Mexico where Charlie had an MRI scan on Friday (August 7) to see if treatment has worked.

Toni said: “The scan is three hours long and pretty hard work as Charlie is not sedated and has to lay still the whole time.”

Following the scan, the trio visited a Mexican ranch where Charlie spent time in the hot tub with his sister.

The family returned home to England on Wednesday, August 12.

After a “nerve-racking wait” for the results, Toni said she got an email from Charlie’s doctor who said his “cancer is stable meaning no growth since March”.

She revealed: “I’m so happy about the results as it could have been worse and shown new tumours so being stable for nearly 6 months is amazing.”

Toni said she will be going back to Mexico with Charlie in September where he will have another scan and a discussion with the doctor treating Charlie.

They plan to stay there for about seven days and will need to raise money for the flights, scan and accommodation.

Toni said: “Thank you to everybody who takes time to read Charlie’s story and share it and a massive thankyou to everyone who has donated and helped save my little Charlie.”

The Chronicle has launched a campaign to help support the families efforts.
