READING has been named one of the top five most fittest 'cities' in the UK recently, according to statistics.

The town was ranked fourth place, out of all 30 cities and large towns in the UK, according to data produced by fitness training providers Future Fit Training.

The top spot was taken by Brighton and Hove, followed by Bournemouth, followed by Nottingham.

Findings were based on different factors, including number and types of facilities, annual fitness searches, personal training courses booked, and percentage of physically active adults per 100,000 people.

it was shown in Reading, per 100,000 people, there are 50 gyms, 14 swimming facilities, 1,020 annual fitness searches, 4.6 personal training courses booked and overall, 63.9 per cent of residents are considered 'physically active adults.'

Max Meiklejohn, a Personal Trainer in Reading, said: "I've always been of the mindset that fitness makes you feel better.

"There are so many things you can do to get involved - gyms, cycling, boxing, running.

"There's many things that can take you out of a mundane lifestyle."
