A MAN died after being hit by a train near Swindon last night.
Great Western Railway confirmed the train was travelling from Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington when the person was struck.
British Transport Police were called at 8.49pm after the train had just left Swindon and was on its way to Didcot Parkway.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the South Western Ambulance Service.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to Swindon area after a report that a person had been struck by a train. Officers from the BTP attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 20:49 and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“The ambulance service also attended but the person was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers are currently working to establish the identity of the person, and inform their next of kin. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”
