THE council has revealed more information about a planned road resurfacing project after signs appeared in a Tilehurst road.

But those worried about getting caught up in queues around New Lane Hill may not need to be concerned just yet – as Reading Borough Council (RBC) says the resurfacing works could happen at any point during their three-year road improvement plan.

Warnings about the roadworks appeared on social media, with photos of a sign on a lamppost in New Lane Hill suggesting RBC could start works from August 17, 2020.

The sign lists various roads across the town that are due to be affected.

Explaining what’s going on, a RBC spokesman said: “New Lane Hill is due to be resurfaced as part of Reading’s 3-year road improvement plan.

“It is a legal requirement to have the signage in place to allow roads to legally be closed for any potential work, but that does not mean for definite that all the roads on the closure notice will be treated this year.”

The spokesperson added New Lane Hill is on a “provisional list of roads which may be resurfaced this financial year (by March 31st 2021), though the work might be conducted later in the three-year programme”.

The council said the exact dates work will take place have not been finalised yet and the date detailed on the sign is the “earliest that the work would take place”.

Full details of the programme will be published once the council has finalised them.
