A SHINFIELD resident has celebrated her 100th birthday in style with a champagne breakfast and high tea treat.

Mabel, who lives at Shinfield View Care Home, celebrated her milestone birthday yesterday (August 2) starting the day with a champagne breakfast with another resident in the bistro.

She then enjoyed a garden visit with her son and daughter where she opened her telegram from the Queen.

Jodie Whatmore, the care home’s deputy manager, said she was “overjoyed by receiving the telegram”.

Mabel opened her cards and gifts with her family including a scrap book of pictures from throughout her life that her daughter had made.

In the afternoon, she sat down for a social distancing luxury high tea with four other residents in the dining area and was presented with her cake and a hamper of all her favourite things.

This included Jaffa Cakes and fruit and nut chocolates.

“I don’t feel 100, I can’t believe it."

Ms Whatmore described Mabel as a “very humble” and “family orientated lady” who has a “very close relationship with her family”.

She said: “It is such a big milestone to reach, it was really difficult for the family not to be able to throw a big celebration and not be able to spend that time with Mabel, therefore we knew we really had to go all out for her and give her such a special day.”
