WOODLEY TOWN centre bosses have announced this week that the town’s annual Christmas Extravaganza has been cancelled due to lockdown restrictions.

The town centre management posted the announcement to Facebook on July 29, stating both the Extravaganza, set to be on December 6, and the Christmas carol concert, set to be on November 28, have been cancelled due to coronavirus lockdown rules applying “for some time yet.”

A spokesman said: “With the current Covid-19 restrictions likely to be in place for some time yet, Woodley Town Centre Management have taken the difficult decision to cancel this year's Christmas Carol Concert planned for November 28, and the Christmas Extravaganza planned for December 6.

"These two events have been extremely popular for several years and we know that visitors were really looking forward to these annul events.

"It is therefore regrettable that we have had to make this decision. However, public safety is of paramount importance and this decision was the only viable option.

"The Christmas Tree and Lights will still be in Woodley as usual and we are looking at holding alternative seasonally based activities in the town centre during December.”
