An 11-year-old boy whose sister suffered a brain haemorrhage and had part of her skull removed received a huge helping hand from his rugby teammates, as they clubbed more than £1,000 to her fundraising page.

17-year-old Amelia Jones, the daughter of Marlow Rugby Club’s director Leighton Jones, was rushed to the John Radcliffe Hospital after collapsing at home on January 3 this year.

After 12 hours of operating and with Amelia in an intensive care unit, doctors released the pressure on her brain as it was too high.

This meant that more surgery was needed and with Amelia’s life in the balance, Leighton and his wife Suzi were twice called in to say their goodbyes.

But thankfully, the teenager survived but now needs care and treatment, which has been made difficult due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

To help Amelia, a fundraising page was launched and incredibly, £38,600 has been raised so far.

And those who recently contributed to the fund were the teammates of Lucas Jones, the brother of Amelia.

The Marlow Rugby Club under 11s were due to go on a tour playing the sport, but after the rugby season was cancelled due to the pandemic, Lucas’ teammates decided to use the refunded money to go towards Amelia’s treatment.

A total of £1,240 was donated and after the conclusion of the under 11’s first training session on Tuesday, July 21 (their first session in four months), the team surprised Lucas with a giant cheque courtesy of Darwin Press Limited.
