PLANS for Remembrance Sunday in Tilehurst have been made with organisers announcing this year's theme is 'saying thanks'.

The group Turn Tilehurst Red for Remembrance Sunday has revealed its annual event Turn Tilehurst Red 2020 will run from November 1 to November 12, this year.

The group's organiser and founder, Kate Taylor, said this year's theme is based on 'saying thanks'.

She said: "It's not just remembering soldiers but also the doctors and nurses and key workers."

A special woven badge is being designed with a picture of a soldier and nurse on it which will be sold with profits going to the Poppy Appeal.

Each year, Turn Tilehurst Red sees the village coming together with poppies displayed in the windows of schools, homes and businesses to commemorate Remembrance Sunday.

People also decorate the village in red, white and blue.

A competition based on decorations will be held this year for the best school design, best shop design and also the best street.

Ms Taylor is encouraging people to fly their flags - which she said "can be any flag" such as an NHS flag or your home countries flag - to "remember those who have lost their lives".

She said the main event will be held on Wednesday, November 11, in the Triangle if it is allowed to run.

Choirs of children usually sing at the event and a giant poppy is made out of people's donated coins with all the money going to the Poppy Appeal.
