FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a home in Reading for more than three hours yesterday (July 12) and needed three hose reels to extinguish the fire.

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire on Montague Street at 11:20am yesterday.

Firefighters from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Dee Road, Whitley Wood, Wokingham, an Incident Command Unit from Maidenhead and two additional Officers were sent to the scene.

They discovered a fire on the ground floor of a two-storey terraced house.

The service said four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using three hose reels before making the scene safe.

It said: “They were initially on the scene for approximately 3 hours and 25 minutes, before returning for re-inspection to check for hotspots and make sure the fire was fully extinguished.”
