A new street-cleaning company has been introduced to the borough, after already cleaning up the streets of Lower Earley.

Urbaser, a street cleaning company, have been working to ensure that Lower Earley stays clean recently, with most of their work being done around the area surrounding Hawkedon Primary School.

The company has been carrying out street-cleaning work since April 1, maintaining the town throughout lockdown.

So far the council has identified different school and housing estate entrances and major roads as areas of focus.

The new contract with Urbaser also includes a new fleet of vehicles, grade A standard for sweeping litter and detritus on all adopted roads, footpaths, traffic islands and cycleways, and assurance that all litter bins are emptied on time and that flytipping is removed within set timescales.

The company also provides easy monitoring of Scheduled sweeping, litter bin emptying, highway herbicide treatment and flytipping removal.

Councillor Parry Batth, executive member for environment, said: "We know how important it is to our residents to see the borough is well looked after, especially in key areas such as around schools and at the entrances to residential areas.

"Staff from Urbaser have really hit the ground running with works across our area and I look forward to seeing the high standards sustained for years to come.

The company has been contracted to work with the Wokingham Borough Council for six years.

Councillor Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for highways and transport, said: "Providing this service through our existing highways contractor VolkerHighways has helped us transition to the new provider almost seamlessly.

"It will also increase efficiency in the years ahead for our roads and pavements, as highway maintenance and highway cleansing are naturally linked services."
