CHILDREN from Newbury and the surrounding area have shown their support for their local care home by making handmade artwork for residents.

Argyles Bupa Care Home has received dozens of cards, jokes, paintings and letters from local children over the lockdown period.

Some of the children who have sent cards are children of the staff, others are neighbours of the home, and others are school children from John Rankin and Falkland Primary School, who wanted to send their kind wishes.

Some of the children have used the opportunity to start up a friendship and conversation with the residents, asking questions such as “do you ever regret not taking part in anything?” and “did you do any sports as a teenager?”.

Others chose to write messages of support like “stay positive”, “keep smiling,” and “be happy.”

Speaking about the kind messages, one resident said: “The children in Newbury have been so lovely and kind to us, and it’s wonderful to know that people are thinking of us even when times are difficult.”

“All the art they’ve sent has been so brilliant and creative and it’s made me very proud to live here.”

Julia Hedley, Home Manager at Argyles Bupa Care Home added: “The support from the community has been overwhelming.

"Seeing people come together to support the staff and the residents like this has been heart-warming, and it just goes to show how important community spirit can be in times like this.”
