READING is about to get its very first drive-in cinema to entertain people during the pandemic.

A Facebook event says the drive-in cinema will be located at Reading Hockey Club on Sonning Lane but dates for the event are yet to be confirmed.

A post reads: “Picture yourself leant back in your convertible surrounded by a mahogany sunset.

“You're sipping a cold refreshing drink whilst watching a timeless classic on the big screen.”

It continued: “Cinema knows no quarantine, and we welcome you to join us in a unique setting in Reading screening some all time classic films.”

The event page explains there will be timeless classics, jaw dropping thrillers, hilarious comedies and gripping children’s movies on show.

It also says there will be food and drink such as popcorn, gourmet food, mocktails and more.

The announcement comes as Summernights Drive-In cinema said it would be touring the Thames Valley to show a number of films.

The dates for the tour run from Friday, July 3, to July 12.

Films include La La Land, Jaws, Mamma Mia and The Lion King.

Drivers can pull up to the field where films will be projected on the big screens, and themed food can also be ordered from an app to your bonnet.

The website also describes a 'in-car silent disco' as well, all while keeping to the appropriate social distancing regulations still in place.

Locally, the sites listed include Mortimer Fairground, Newbury Rugby Club, and Padworth Village Hall.
