Police have cordoned off much of Reading town centre following the terror attack in Forbury Gardens last night.

The investigation is now led by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East, but several roads in Reading continue to be closed. On duty in the town centre is Thames Valley Police. Some officers have been specially brought from other areas.

The force said: "There is a police cordon in place at Forbury Gardens and we would ask that the public avoid the area while officers are on scene."

Despite all of Friar Street being closed off, much of the town remains busy. This picture was taken by our reporter at the scene.

  • Abbey street to the junction of Abbey Square and Abbots Walk

Thames Valley Police’s top chief said there is ‘no wider risk’ to the public following yesterday’s “horrific” terror attack at Reading’s Forbury Gardens but there will be more officers around the town in the coming days.
